For in-person exams, Centres must provide exam rooms that meet LAMDA’s minimum requirements to ensure Learners can perform in an appropriate environment.
- Size of the Exam Room: The size of the exam room should be appropriate for the exam(s) being undertaken. LAMDA recommends:
- 25 square metres (excluding the area required for the Examiner or any musical accompanist)
- Rectangular or square in shape*
- No obstructions to the Examiner’s sight lines (for example: pillars or furniture)
- Ceiling Height: The recommended height of the ceiling is a minimum of three (3) metres.
- Exam Room Use: The room must be for the sole use of the exam and not a shared room divided by screens or curtains.
- Exam Room Entrances: All entrances and exits must allow for the exam to take place without distractions and interruptions that may impact the Learner’s performance.
- Reflective Surfaces: mirrors must be covered so that Learners and Examiners are not distracted.
- Doors:
- Must be able to be fully closed during the assessment
- All doors to the room should be marked with a sign or notice which states: “Please Do Not Disturb: Examinations in Progress. Thank you.”
- Noise: The centre and exam room must be a quiet space without background noise that may impact the Learner’s performance.
- Posters/Displays: The exam room space must be free from any posters/displays containing information that could relate to an exam, or that could present, or be deemed to present Learners with any exam advantage.
If you have any concerns about your exam space not being able to meet the above requirements, please email us at exams@lamda.ac.uk so that we can discuss possible solutions.
*Note: If a rectangular room is used, the length of the short wall should not be less than 5 metres to enable large groups or performances with large movement to be performed safely.
